Abstract Ethnicism was one of the greatest contributors to the formation of Yugoslavia - a mutual nation of the South Slavic people - after World War I, but ethnicism also contributed greatly to severe the connection between constituent enthnic groups of Yugoslavia, causing the disintegration of this nation in the early 1990s. Studying the impact of ethnicism to the formation and disintegration of Yugoslavia helps to clarify several historical issues, such as ethnic relation, political system, conflict and war, during the 80- year existence of Yugoslavia.
