Abstract Vietnam-Russia relationship in the recent years is the consecutiveness of the traditional co-operation between Vietnam and the USSR, since the current Russia Federation is the inheriting nation of the former USSR. Key issues learnt from the tradition and the past thirty years of Vietnam-Russia relationship are: To respect and inherit the precious values of the previous cooperation; the cooperation in the new situations should lead to effectiveness, with the new logics of thinking; Vietnam should participate in the cooperation as a mighty partner.
