Abstract DEVELOP GREEN BUILDINGS AND GREEN CITIES FOR THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT Pham Ngoc Dang(1) and Pham Thi Hai Ha(2) (1) Vietnam Association for the Convervation of Nature and Environment (2) Faculty of Architecture and Planning, National University of Civil Engineering Urbanization is still happening around the world and especially rapidly in developing countries, if the current rate of growth continues, 75% of people will live in cities by 2050 and energy demand will increase by 50%. In Vietnam, the rate of urbanization of the country by the end of 2019 will reach about 40%. The rapidly increasing urbanization in the period of industrialization and modernization of the country can consume up to 50% of the country's natural materials and 40% of the country's total energy, consuming about 30% of clean water sources, at the same time polluting water, air, soil and solid waste nvironm nts, pro uc a out % of “gr nhous gas s” causing climat chang , not ensuring sustainable development. Therefore, the development of green buildings and green cities in our country now plays a very important role in the cause of environmental protection and sustainable development of the construction industry in particular, and the country's sustainable development and climate change adaptation, in general. In this report, there are characteristics or criteria for green buildings and green cities, analyze difficulties and obstacles for green buildings and green cities development in Vietnam.
